KEY STAGE 1: P2-4
Goal: Excel in Fundamental Numeracy Skills
Eolas offers a gradual progression program for P2-P4 students. We adopt step by step
approach and encourage students to focus on basic numeracy skills. Students will excel
in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division before progression to more complex
mathematical concepts.
Lesson Structure
With a well-structured teaching schedule, students in a group will focus on one particular mathematical concept at a time (the Asian Maths teaching technique). Each concept taught is interlinked with the next therefore students. This approach allows students to apply previous knowledge in learning new topics.
Students in a small group will explore different mathematical concepts through interactive lessons. Each lesson include: teaching, exploring and practicing.
Teaching
At the beginning of each class tutors will introduce new mathematical concept using examples. The tutor will provide clear guidance and explain each mathematical concept in depth, using simple and precise mathematics language.
Exploring
Lessons are conducted in an interactive format and tutor will emphasise on logical reasoning, continuously asking students ‘why’ and ‘what if’.
Tutor will also use various Mathematical models to help young students visualise and understand.
Practicing
Classwork and homework are provided each lesson. Students are given time to practice the new topic in class. This ensures students can apply what they learnt in the class.
Very often students are encouraged to demonstrate and explain answers in
class – this further reinforces concepts and boost confidence.
Additional Support
To make sure each student fully understands the mathematical concepts necessary for their stage, tutors are happy to answer any questions students might encounter after their weekly lesson.
Occasionally tutors will provide free additional lessons to students who have questions regarding school works or have tests coming up.
We aim to offer as much support as possible to students who are willing to learn and thrive!
